Use this technical calculator anytime you need to do a quick calculation involving units or tolerances. It is part of a hosted version of the
truenumber platform designed to help companies work with and manage engineering numbers. Developed specifically for engineers, this calculator stores parameters and calculated result as truenumber hyperlinks.
Read the instructions below and click each example to open it in the calculator. Then hit [Enter] button to do the calculation.

How to enter simple calculations w/o parameters
Calculations always need to be in curly-baces
{ }. Try these examples:
{ 25 * 42 }
or, use square-brackets [ ] to enter numbers with units
{ [34ft] * [25 m] }
We hope you'll provide a subject and a property for what you are calculating (if you don't, it will)
area of my yard = {[342 ft] * [125 +/- 1.5 m]} yd^2
Or enter a simple truenumber (not a calculation at all - no curly braces)
resistivity of tungsten = 52.8e-9 ohm m
How to enter calculations with parameters
In this expression, the built-in constant
$g is the earth's gravitational acceleration, and
t is a parameter.
HINT: In the calculator, click the

icon to see the keypad. It lists all available functions, operators and constants.
length of fall = {1/2*$g*t^2} ft
Enter it into the calculator and a box for parameter t will appear. In it, type time of fall = 3 sec then hit the Set t button to see your answer. (or enter time of fall = 3 +/- 0.1 sec to see tolerance in action)
